Silence, complaisance, and the bravery to speak up are all entangled in a family’s pursuit to transport their daughter to the Little Miss Sunshine beauty pageant finals in their clanky VW bus. This dark comedy about what it means to take control of your life and the various contests we are put in, including those of beauty, will leave you wanting to watch it for the first time over and over again. Little Miss Sunshine is not a ray of sunshine, despite the title and the yellow poster, but their pursuit of happiness as a family which reveals the melancholy intricacies of becoming honest to oneself about who you are, and being able to share it with the ones you love.
