Lonely college freshman Alex (Cooper Raiff) has moved thousands of miles away from his family and has closed himself off from truly trying to make any friends on campus. He thinks that’s just how it will be, until he finally gets the confidence to go to a house party at the fraternity ‘Shithouse’ with his roommate. The night takes an unexpected turn when he tries to befriend his RA, Maggie (Dylan Gelula) and goes on an adventure that changes his entire outlook on his desired college experience.
This inspiring independent film found its chance on Twitter, when writer and actor Cooper Raiff tweeted a link of his initial short film (which he made as a sophomore in college) to his favorite director, Jay Duplass, daring him to click the link and email him back… and the rest is history. This embarrassingly relatable film debut is exciting for aspiring young college filmmakers and has earned its rightful place in a student-run cinema.
According to one Letterboxd user, Shithouse is “Literally the most authentic representation of being a freshman in college ever. Or maybe I was just super awkward, clingy, and over-sensitive too.”
