An early fixture in the illustrious career of the Spanish auteur, Law of Desire marks Pedro Almodovar’s first self-produced work under his El Deseo label. In a film that is truly best left for the audience and their embrace with the pictures on screen, Law of Desire can only be described as Almodovar pulling absolutely no punches. Bringing together the stars from his favorite horror film, Eusebio Poncela & Marta Fernandez (Arrebato 1979), and frequent collaborators such as Antonio Banderas, Carmen Maura, and Rossy De Palma, we embark on a sleaze-fest from minute one. What is left is a homoerotic, candy-coloured melodrama filled with sex, love, lust, and drugs that truly lives up to the raunchy romp that is advertised.
