An aimless ronan (a samurai with no allegiances), played by the iconic Toshiro Mifune, drifts into a destitute town somewhere in rural Japan around the year 1860 and becomes engrossed in a violent conflict between two warring gangs. It is clear that if these two gangs are not stopped the town will collapse into total ruin. Begrudgingly, the master sword-fighter gets involved, resulting in violence, conflict and (arguably) a resolution.
